Appliances - Home Appliances Guide

Buying new home appliances can be a difficult task. You want to make sure that you get your money’s worth, especially when it’s an appliance you use every day, such as your fridge or coffee maker. There are so many makes and models to choose from, though, that you might not know where to start. Our guide can help!

Home Appliances Buying Guide

Here are the factors you should consider when choosing new appliances.

  • Style and Color - Will the appliance match with the rest of your decor? Will it match the other appliances? If you have a stainless steel fridge, you obviously don’t want to purchase a white dishwasher. You might not think to match your coffee maker with your food processor, though, but these small appliances will often sit on your countertop together. Here are some of the options you have:
    • Stainless Steel - This modern look is very popular, and brushed steel finishes are also sometimes available.
    • Basic white or black - You can’t go wrong with a staple color.
    • Retro-designed - 50’s-era kitchen appliances are making a comeback.
    • Colorful - Many brands are now offering multiple colors for you to choose from to better match your lifestyle!
  • Size - Make sure you measure your space before you go start shopping! You’ll be more than disappointed if your new fridge won’t slide into the space you have for it! The same applies for small appliances, like blenders and juicers. If you live in a small apartment, you won’t have room for the deluxe version of anything!
  • Brand Name - You may have to pay a little more for a well-known brand name, but keep in mind you’ll likely also get a good warranty and a product that will last you longer. If you spend $15 toaster now, you may end up paying for it in extra loaves of bread as you throw out burnt toast each day! For major appliances, keep in mind that repair costs can be expensive, so it can be worth it to pay more upfront to avoid them. Splurge a little for better quality and a good warranty.
  • Cleaning and Repair - Not only will you be using your appliances, but you’ll be cleaning and possibly repairing them, too. If you choose a white one, dirt will show up more easily, and you’ll have to clean your appliances more often. Electronic appliances with automated sensors and digital displays may have features you think you’d like to use, but they can be more difficult to repair, too! Make sure to consider any maintenance when you buy a new appliance.

To get a good deal, make sure to shop around. Check your local department and appliance stores, but look online, too! You can often find deals for free shipping, purchasing multiple items at once, or just slashed prices. When you’re investing in appliances you’ll use every day, it’s worth the time it takes to find the right item, and the right deal, for you.
