Washing Machine Repair and Cleaning

Posted on March 4th, 2008

Washing machines do so many things that it won’t be far-fetched for one to break down from constant use. Lifting several kilos of dirty laundry and water and lugging it around in a spinning motion is no laughing matter. It’s to be expected that you’re going to have to clean and repair your washing machine to keep it in good use. Are you up to the task? Don’t fret: we’ll guide you with some cleaning and repair tips to get the most out of your trusty washing machine.

When cleaning, start from the inside and slowly work your way out. Open the lid and allow the inside container to dry. Meanwhile, add a small amount of detergent into a bucket of water. Grab a clean sponge, dip it into the mixture, and use it to scrub the inside container of the washing machine. Be sure to get at those hard-to-reach areas.

Afterwards, when you’re done scrubbing, pour the entire bucket into the washing machine and set it to spin. This should thoroughly clean the container in case you missed some spots. Drain and rinse thoroughly.

Whatever happens, don’t go fixing a broken washing machine by yourself. A repairman ought to do that job. You may, however, perform these basic operating checks:

  • If the washing machine doesn’t turn on, check the cord, the plug, and the outlet. Sometimes the cord wears off and you’re going to have to replace it.
  • Check the fuses and the circuit breaker. Who knows, it might just be a household electrical problem, totally unrelated to your washing machine.
  • Some washing machines are installed with a safety feature in that it won’t spin until the lid is properly closed.

Remember these things before calling the repair man over, or the joke’s on you.

I have a Marynen CMF 2400 E washing machine, when I start any program it only turns on the pump and then stops, door LED should be green but it\'s red. I\'ve already replaced the door mechanism, checked the brushes, checked the pressure switch system, cleaned the pump filter, uncoupled the heating element but nothing helps. Even if I try to short spin only it uses the pump for a couple of seconds then stops! Very frustrating problem, anyone know what to do next? Thanks, Steve

My washer/dryer blew which I managed to repair. However, the cycle does not switch from wash to spin automatically anymore, even though it switches from spin to dry. Any ideas what the problem could be? I personally think that it may be the PCB but not sure. Many thanks
