Clothes and Linens: Keeping them Clean
You’d do good to get your house linen cleaned up every once in a while. We’re not talking about just dusting and sweeping the surface every couple of weeks or so. We’re talking about stuffing all your house linen in a plastic bag and putting them in the washing machine for a good spin. Dirty linens smell heavy with mold and that’s not good for interior design, no matter how much effort and heart you put into it. You need clean linens if you want your house to stay fresh and smell fresh all throughout.
Cleaning Tips for Clothes and Linens
Here are some cleaning products / solutions for fine linen:
- Bleach – Bleach is a chemical used to whiten or remove color from linens and clothes through a process called oxidation. Bleach is regarded as a powerful cleaning agent and should be used with care. Soaking a colored shirt in a bleach solution can damage its texture and colored print beyond restoration. For the most part, use bleach only when necessary. Use it to remove tough stains on house linens. Follow the instructions on your bleach cleaning product to avoid damaging your linen instead of getting it clean.
- Washing machine – A washing machine is an important, if not essential, part of doing the household cleaning. These days, nobody hand washes linens anymore. As usual, sort the linens first according to color before putting them in the washing machine. Configure the settings as desired. Make sure you don’t overdo them as this might cause the linens to tear or the colors to wear off.
- Iron – When the clothes are dried up, it’s time to run the iron over them to smooth out creases. Moderate the heat depending on the type of linen you’re working on. Run the iron gently, taking care to remove kinks and other inconsistencies on the fabric. Starch helps prevent creases, so use starch if necessary.
Check Your Linens
Next time the air inside your house feels heavy with mold and dust, check your linens. You’ll be surprised to find just how much dirt can accumulate in those fabrics. Good luck on getting them washed and cleaned up!
